Visitor Visa – Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)

Applicants for a visitor visa to come to Canada will need to address four main points in their application. These include: the purpose of their visit to Canada; proof that they can financially support themselves throughout the duration of their stay in Canada; that they have ties to their home country and can provide evidence that their stay in Canada is temporary; and that the applicant has a previous travel history and has acted in compliance with all Canadian immigration regulations.

Business Visitor Visa

Foreign nationals may be eligible to apply for a business visitor visa, if they intend to visit Canada for international business activities without entering the Canadian labour market, or are visiting temporarily to invest, develop business relationships, or research ways to grow their business.  In particular, applicants must demonstrate: that they do not plan to enter the Canadian labour market; that their main place of business and income is located outside Canada’; that they can show evidence of their reason for entering Canada as a visitor (such as providing a letter of invitation from the Canadian business they are visiting); and that they meet the general requirements for visitors to Canada.

Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents

The Super Visa for Parents and Grandparents is a useful program made available to the parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents in Canada, so that they may visit Canada for up to two years at a time. These are typically issued as 10-year, multiple entry visas. Eligibility for a Super Visa includes:

  • That the applicant is the parent, or grandparent of a Canadian citizen, or a permanent resident of Canada;

  • A signed letter from the inviting child or grandchild, which demonstrates promised financial support for the duration of the applicant’s stay, the number of individuals in the household of the inviter, and evidence of the inviter’s Canadian citizenship,  or permanent residence; and

  • Medical insurance which has been paid and is valid for at least 1 year from the date of entry, and that provides coverage for at least CAD$100,000.

Additional considerations in assessing an application for a Super Visa will include the applicant’s ties to their home country, the purpose of their visit, their family and finances, as well as the overall economic and political stability of the applicant’s home country.
