Study Permits

To study in Canada, most foreign nationals will require the authorization of a study permit. The primary requirements for making an application for a study permit include:

  • Acceptance by a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada – A DLI is a Canadian educational institution which has been approved by a provincial, or territorial government to host international students.

  • Sufficient funds to support payment of tuition, living expenses while in Canada, and return transportation to your home country.

  • Evidence that you will leave Canada at the end of your studies.

  • That you are not inadmissible to Canada (e.g. by reason of medical or criminal history)

  • Proof of identity, including a valid passport and recent passport-size photos.

  • A Custodianship Declaration for minor children requiring a custodian.

  • Other country- or region-specific documents.
