Permanent Residence

Express Entry Program

The Express Entry Program is one of the main systems through which Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada facilitates the permanent residence process for economic immigration. Under the umbrella of the Express Entry Program, applicants may apply through the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class, Canadian Experience Class, or certain Provincial Nominee Programs.

This points-based system allows applicants to submit a profile to demonstrate that they meet minimum requirements and program-specific requirements for eligibility. If eligible to apply, you will be accepted into the pool of candidates. Using the points that you have been assigned in your Express Entry profile, you will be ranked and invitations to apply for permanent residence will be sent to candidates with the highest scores in the pool. Once you have received an invitation to apply, you have 90 days to submit your complete application for permanent residence.

Provincial Nominees

Individual provinces and territories in Canada have their own immigration streams, and many have their own Express Entry program. This means that how you apply and possible routes to immigration are subject to the specific Provincial Nominee program through which you are applying . This program is intended to fill the labour needs of an individual province by providing workers who have the desired skills, education and work experience, as well as the intention to reside in that province. In order to be eligible, you must meet the provincial requirements, as well as the minimum requirements of the Express Entry program and one of the immigration programs Express Entry covers.
